Meet Arthur!
Arthur is a 5-year-old, 78-pound neutered Staffordshire Terrier/Retriever mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart. This handsome boy is the perfect combination of playful adventure buddy and affectionate cuddle companion. He's in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and able to transport once matched to an adopter.
Arthur was found roaming around a park with some other dogs. He was always happy to greet the street feeders. One day he was rounded up with some other dogs and brought to the county shelter. We fell in love with him and thankfully a foster agreed to help him out.
Arthur loves life and approaches every day with enthusiasm. He's a moderate energy guy who enjoys playtime, exploring, and spending time with his people. He has successfully interacted with dogs of different sizes, including a 70-pound Black Lab and a 35-40 pound Mini Aussie and a 15 Chihuahua. Arthur enjoys playing and does a good job reading social cues from other dogs, recognizing when a playmate is ready for a break.
Arthur has also been around cats and even pot-bellied pigs. He's curious and interested in them but has never shown aggression. As with any dog, proper introductions and supervision are recommended.
This sweet boy has spent time around a young child and has done well. He doesn't jump on people, but because of his size and excitement, he could accidentally knock over a small child during play. He would do best with a family that understands his energetic nature and can provide appropriate outlets for his enthusiasm.
Arthur is fully house-trained and crate-trained. He settles nicely in his crate and has comfortably stayed crated for for longer periods before needing a potty break. He rides beautifully in the car and absolutely LOVES car rides -mention the words "car ride" and you'll have his full attention!
Personality-wise, Arthur is outgoing, playful, curious, affectionate, and incredibly sweet. He enjoys toys, loves spending time with his people, and is always happy to soak up attention and affection. He thinks if he can fit, he can sit!
Arthur may pull at first out on a walk, but settles into the routine and does well.
Arthur's ideal home is one that can provide regular exercise, structure, and plenty of opportunities to be part of the family. He doesn't need another dog in the home to be happy, but he would thrive with people who enjoy including their dog in everyday adventures.
If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion who is equally happy going on an adventure or curling up beside you at the end of the day, Arthur may be the perfect addition to your family.
Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
