Sweet Boone is a 2-year-old, neutered Chihuahua/Dachshund mix who weighs approximately 18 pounds. He is being fostered in Austin, Texas, and transport can be arranged by our rescue once matched with an approved adopter.

He has the kindest face and the softest, most soulful eyes. One look at him and it's impossible not to root for him.

Boone came to us after being rescued from a heartbreaking hoarding situation in Houston, where nearly 80 Chihuahuas were living outdoors among piles of trash and debris with very little human interaction. Despite everything he's been through, Boone has remained incredibly gentle, sweet, and eager to experience the love he has always deserved.

Like many dogs from neglect situations, Boone is still learning that the world can be a safe place. He's making steady progress every day but will thrive with a patient family who understands that trust is earned through kindness, consistency, and time. Every new experience is another opportunity for Boone to build confidence, and watching him come out of his shell is incredibly rewarding.

Boone is learning to walk on a leash and continues to gain confidence with gentle encouragement. He does well in his crate, where he feels safe and secure, and he's beginning to discover all the little joys of simply being a dog. Every day brings new milestones, whether it's growing braver in new environments, seeking out affection, or relaxing a little more around his people.

He's a quiet, thoughtful little guy who would much rather observe before jumping into something new. Once he feels comfortable, his sweet personality shines through. Boone doesn't need an exciting lifestyle to be happy. He simply wants a family that will celebrate his small victories, appreciate his gentle nature, and give him the time he needs to blossom.

Boone would do best in a calm, patient home that will continue his socialization and help him build confidence at his own pace. Positive reinforcement, predictable routines, and compassionate guidance will help him continue to thrive. Because of his sensitive nature, a quieter home may be the best fit, and a friendly, confident resident dog could help show him that people and new experiences aren't so scary after all.

Rescue dogs like Boone have an incredible way of showing gratitude once they know they're safe. The family lucky enough to earn his trust won't just gain a dog. They'll gain a loyal companion whose quiet love and unwavering devotion are worth every ounce of patience. Boone is ready for his second chance, and he's hoping his forever family is out there waiting to show him what home truly feels like.
