Madison, 3 years old, spayed female, Labrador Retriever mix, 45 pounds. She is in a foster home in HOUSTON, TEXAS.

Madison was brought in as a stray to the local shelter in Houston. The only picture available was her intake picture. She was scared and her coat was a mess. She was at risk of euthanasia and there was just something pulling at us to save her. We knew nothing about her but we knew she needed another chance.

We are SO happy she was rescued. We have no idea what she is mixed with as her body has these short little legs.

If you're looking for a loyal companion who would rather spend her day curled up beside you than chasing toys, Madison may be your perfect match.

Madison is an affectionate, easygoing girl with adorable short legs, turned-out front feet, and the cutest little butt wag that is guaranteed to make you smile. Her favorite pastime isn't playing with toys—it's soaking up belly rubs, relaxing on the couch with her people, and being wherever you are. In fact, if Madison could make one request of her future family, it would simply be this: please save her a spot on the couch.

She gets along well with other dogs after a proper introduction and has successfully lived with both small dogs (10 and 20 pounds) and a larger 60-pound dog. Madison enjoys playful interactions and is good at recognizing when another dog is ready to take a break. She would be happy as either the only dog or with another dog who does not want to play all the time.

Madison is fully house-trained and has wonderful manners around the house. She sleeps quietly through the night in her crate and simply lets you know in the morning when she's ready for breakfast and a potty break. When left home alone, she's trustworthy and mostly spends her time napping. She isn't destructive and settles in nicely whether she's in the bedroom or relaxing on the couch. We will always recommend using a crate during the initial transition period in a new home.

Walking Madison is an enjoyable experience. With her short little legs, she prefers a slower pace and stays close to her person. She also rides calmly in the car, making her an easy companion for errands and adventures.

When meeting new people, Madison may bark initially to announce their arrival, but she warms up quickly and happily accepts affection. She is naturally alert and enjoys keeping watch over her home, making her a great little watchdog.

Madison is fed separately from other dogs in the home. Madison is incredibly smart, highly food motivated, and eager to learn. She has already made excellent progress in her foster home, including learning to patiently wait for permission before eating her meals.

Madison's ideal family will appreciate a dog whose greatest joy comes from simply being close to her people. She doesn't need endless toys or constant entertainment—just a cozy place to relax, plenty of belly rubs, and someone who will love her as much as she'll love them.
