Nell, 5 years old, neutered male, Pitbull mix, 58 pounds. He is in a foster home in Houston, Texas and able to transport once an adopter is approved.
Nell was at risk of euthanasia at the county shelter in Houston. He was found tied in a backyard before arriving to the shelter. We have no idea how he spent those years, but he is truly the best boy! We are beyond grateful a foster was open to taking this sweet soul!
If you're looking for an easygoing best friend who loves both playtime and cuddle time, Nell may just be your perfect match.
Nell is one of those rare dogs who seems to fit in wherever he goes. He has settled into foster care effortlessly and has become everyone's favorite laid-back companion. Whether he's playing with his dog friends, soaking up the sunshine in the backyard, or leaning in for a hug, Nell is simply happy to be with his people.
He has done wonderfully with dogs ranging from tiny 12-pound pups to 55-pound dogs, including playful puppies and adult dogs of all sizes. Nell enjoys a good game of chase or wrestling, but he's just as content relaxing beside his canine companions once playtime is over. He doesn't need another dog to be happy, but he'd certainly enjoy having one if his new family already has a furry friend.
People are Nell's favorite. He's incredibly affectionate and loves being close to his humans. Whether you're a family with children, an active couple, or someone looking for a loyal companion, Nell has the easygoing personality to fit right in. He's been wonderful with children, greets new people with a wagging tail, and even stayed calm and friendly when visitors came into the home. He'll alert you if someone is outside, but once he meets them, he's all smiles.
Nell is fully house-trained and has impeccable crate manners. In fact, his foster describes him as the perfect gentleman in his crate. He rests quietly, sleeps through the night, and is comfortable being crated for several hours when needed. He also rides beautifully in the car, quietly lying down for the trip.
While Nell is wonderfully behaved, he's a strong boy on leash and would benefit from continued leash training. Other than that, he's an incredibly easy dog to live with. He's smart, playful, affectionate, independent when needed, and always ready to soak up attention.
One of Nell's most adorable quirks is the way he sits with his little paws turned outward—it melts hearts instantly! He also has the softest fur imaginable and absolutely loves stretching out in the sunshine with his back legs sprawled behind him, happily sunbathing like it's his full-time job.
Nell's ideal home? Almost any loving home. He'd thrive with a family, a couple, or a single adopter. He'd be happy as an only dog or alongside canine siblings. Whether your weekends are filled with adventures or cozy afternoons on the couch, Nell is simply excited to be part of it all.
If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate dog who asks for very little besides love, hugs, and a sunny spot to nap, Nell is ready to become your very best friend.
Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
