Nona’s story

THIS DOG IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN TEXAS. THEIR ADOPTION DONATION IS $475 AND INCLUDES TRANSPORT. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO, AS IT CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OUR ADOPTION AND SCREENING PROCESS.

Our process begins with an application. If we believe it may be a good match, we will reach out to schedule a phone interview, followed by a video call with the foster home. A virtual home visit, along with personal and veterinary reference checks, are required to complete the adoption process. Once approved, the dog will be placed on the next available transport, which runs every few weeks and is included in the adoption donation. If you are not able to welcome a dog until a later date, please wait to apply until that time.

We are a volunteer-run rescue and donate our time to help these dogs find homes. If you are not serious about moving forward with the adoption process, please do not apply. If other people in your household are part of the decision, please make sure they are fully on board before submitting an application. This helps ensure we respect everyones time.

Nona is a 1 year-old, 50 lb, spayed female Staffie mix currently being fostered in Austin, TX, but she can transport out of state when matched with an approved adopter.

Now officially in her older puppy era, Nona's personality is really starting to shine. She still has that playful puppy spark, but she's growing into herself more each day, building confidence, soaking up the world around her, and learning how to channel all that joy into being the best girl.

This little low-rider is built like a tank with her short, sturdy frame and adorably front-heavy build. It's hilarious watching her proudly hop onto the couch now that she's big enough, and even funnier seeing her sprint after her long-legged foster siblings, determined to keep up. She may be low to the ground, but don't let that fool you. This girl is FAST. She loves to zoom around the backyard with her favorite toy and still greets her foster mom every day with an enthusiastic flying leap when she comes home from work.

Nona is all sweetness wrapped in a compact, playful package. She's not overly needy but loves being near her people, the perfect little buddy who's happy to tag along wherever you go. When she gets excited, her whole body wiggles, especially that adorable booty, and her tail goes a mile a minute. She absolutely loves meeting new friends and has been getting lots of practice socializing, from strolling around downtown to meeting new doggy pals and friendly strangers. She recently met a tiny child and did wonderfully.

She's honestly such a hoot. Nona has a stubborn streak that only makes her more lovable and funny. She's the kind of dog who will lovingly nibble your chin when she's excited and proudly try to share by putting her toys in your lap, or occasionally your mouth. She's incredibly clever and loves figuring things out, whether that's solving little puzzles or weaving her way through baby gates and obstacle courses like she's completing a maze.

Nona is highly motivated by both toys and treats, which makes training fun and rewarding. She's recently mastered "sit" and is continuing to work on her leash manners. She's already enjoying adventures out and about, happily joining her foster family for walks of up to 2 to 3 miles, taking in all the sights and smells along the way. She may not love the car ride to get there, but once she arrives, she's truly delightful to have by your side.

Nona is fully crate trained, especially overnight, and settles in beautifully. She's also doing great with her potty training and just needs a family willing to continue reinforcing her routine. She's a bit of a shy little watchdog, too. She's not the bravest girl around, but she'll absolutely sound the alarm if she hears or sees something unfamiliar.

One of Nona's most irresistible features is her absolutely adorable little underbite, which somehow makes all of her goofy expressions even cuter.

She's dog-friendly and gets along great with her foster siblings and her big foster uncle. She loves to play, but like many young dogs, she can get a little extra attached to a favorite toy now and then. Because of that, she'd do best with a canine companion who is respectful of personal space and happy to share the spotlight.

Nona hasn't been around cats or kids in a home setting. But based on her personality, we think she'd do well in a calm home with respectful, well-mannered kids who understand how to interact with an older puppy. She'd thrive with a confident canine friend to play with and learn from, but she'd also be perfectly happy soaking up all the attention as your one-and-only.

While we can't guarantee her adult size, based on her age and breed mix, Nona is expected to fill out into a sturdy, medium-to-large-sized dog. If you're looking for a playful, affectionate, hilarious little tank with the cutest underbite, the happiest wiggle butt around, and enough personality to keep you laughing every single day, Nona is ready to meet you.
