Zac, 5 years old, neutered male, Anatolian Shepherd mix, 60 pounds. He is in a foster home in SAN ANTONIO TEXAS and is able to transport once an adopter is approved.
Zac was rescued from euthanasia at a county shelter. We saw this nervous guy in a play yard and knew we had to rescue him! Shortly after we brought him into rescue we noticed he would hop sometimes and would pick up one of his back legs. X-rays confirmed he needed FHO surgery. This is common for a lot of our rescue dogs where they had a previous injury that was left untreated. Here is one way to understand the surgery: Imagine a door hinge that is bent and grinding every time it opens. Instead of trying to fix the damaged hinge, the damaged piece is removed, and the surrounding support takes over the movement. It isn't exactly the same as before, but it works well and is much more comfortable. Zac is healed and was essentially back to "normal" not long after the procedure. There is no further medical intervention needed and he's not on any medications.
Zac is the definition of a loyal companion. This handsome boy has the perfect balance of playful energy and laid-back cuddles. He enjoys spending time with other dogs, happily joining in for a game before deciding he's had enough and heading over to his favorite place right next to his people for some well-earned relaxation.
Zac has been exposed to dogs of all sizes in his foster home and gets along wonderfully with everyone he's met. He's respectful with other dogs, recognizes when playtime is over, and has excellent canine manners. On walks, he stays calm and doesn't react to passing dogs, making him an easy companion to take out and about.
Inside the home, Zac is a relaxed, low-energy guy who simply wants to be near the people he loves. Outside, he enjoys stretching his legs and exploring but is just as happy settling in afterward for a nap and plenty of affection. He's house-trained, crate-trained, and happily trots into his kennel when there's a tasty treat waiting for him.
If there is one thing Zac wants most, it's companionship. He absolutely loves people and thrives on attention, belly rubs, and gentle pets. One of his sweetest habits is gazing lovingly into your eyes while soaking up all the affection you can give. He's also known to be quite the conversationalist especially if dinner or treats are running late! His adorable, vocal personality will keep you smiling every day. (We suspect there is some Husky mixed in)
Zac has done well meeting new people and has become increasingly comfortable riding in the car. He enjoys toys, loves treats, and has shown no signs of resource guarding. While he hasn't lived with young children, his foster believes he'd do well with a family willing to continue teaching him not to jump up when he gets excited.
His ideal home is one where he won't spend long periods alone. Zac enjoys having canine companions and seems happiest when he has another dog around or people nearby to share life with. Whether you're a family or a single adopter, if you're looking for a devoted dog who will shower you with love and happily keep you company, Zac is ready to fill that role.
Zac's Highlights:
House-trained and crate-trained Dog-friendly and respectful with other dogs Calm on leash with no reactivity Affectionate cuddle bug who loves attention Moderate exercise needs with a relaxed personality indoors Loves treats, toys, and making his people smile Ready to become someone's loyal best friend
Zac isn't looking for perfection he's simply looking for someone to love. In return, he'll give you unwavering companionship, endless cuddles, and a best friend who's happiest right by your side.
Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
